Montebamboli Art Studio in Italy
Korber's Atelier Massa Marittima, Tuscany
Italy was simply an unexpected adventure at the invitation of Contessa Donatella di Raugei and Countess Marina von Kamarowsky, my Luxembourg art representative.

My Atelier was just minutes away from Massa Marittima, a beautiful little village in the Montebamboli area of southern Tuscany. Montebamboli resembled an impressionist painting. It had squirrely cypress trees, winding roads, and straw fields with an intense array of colors flooding the landscapes. At moments I was consumed by the deeply saturated fields of yellow sunflowers, its spectrum of greens, and the rich purples. It leaves one breathless, never forgetting those vibrant reds that are so prominent in those sunsets. In Tuscany, sunsets possess the ability to transport one into a state of perfect stillness... allowing oneself to hear and truly follow one's own breath.
It was there that I...
Made freshly hand-pressed olive oil.
-
Experienced the most colorful palette of fresh vegetables, homemade pasta, and wine.
-
Prepared tomato sauce from my Fracchiolla family's secret recipe made with freshly picked ingredients that were grown in complete harmony with nature.
Met Dino and Dino.
-
Witnessed nature without herbicides and pesticides - allowing birds and bees to thrive and the serpents live freely in the roots of olive trees.
Walked in Etruscan ruins from the Hellenistic period.
Sketched within the city walls of Massa Marittima.
Danced under a mirror glass disco ball on the hillside under a Tuscan night sky.
While there in Italy, I worked on smaller works, mostly in journals. The location varied between my atelier, the countryside, and the café in Piazza Garibaldi. A smile surfaces when I reflect on the town's only library. Inside the library was one computer and had a dial-up connection to the internet. No currency was required, not even a library card.
