To celebrate the reopening, after 20 years, of the De Porres Theatre at Tigne Seafront, Slima, the American Artist Michael Korber, will be showing the works there on Thursday,Friday and Saturday as the last event for the summer 2002 Tempra Academy. Korber won the Grand Prix des Arts at the 2001 Malta International Art Biennale and first in Painting at this years Grolla d'Oro in Treviso, Italy.

His graphic works will also be on show at the Tempra Museum of Contemporary Art in Mgarr and the Wignacourt Museum Contemporary Collection, until October 31.

Born in 1962 and having attended the top-rated Pratt Institute School of Design, in New York, Korber proves to be original and self confident for his age.

According to Dame Francoise Tempra founder and President of the Malta International Art Biennale, “ to be confronted with the explosive linear self-confident ‘miracles' of Michael Korber becomes a daily entrancing experience if you are privileged. as I have been at Villa Tempra, to host the artist. And, very much as in some of the great Modern Artists in the world, that I have had the honour to call my friends, and often to host, inmy homes in London or Malta ( Salvador Dali, Henry Moore, Frank Hill, Giacomo de Pass to name a few ). I recognise in Michael Korber the same “passion” for work as I witnessed in those great Masters, a daily need to “attack” the canvas, the paper or the clay. A need that becomes almost stronger than that of breathing.

Every single day, at Villa Tempra, one could share breakfast with the artist and by dinner time one remained stunned by “ A Change in Direction” a swirling figure, dancing out of the drawing paper, to turn with insolent confidence, as if listening to the no less Jazz music of another creative house-guest, the Italian composer Dr. Ross de Iulio.“Thus the famous “interaction of talents” that I have advocated for so many decades, confirms itself once more. So, Korber not only inspire a musical “echo” but also simultaneously, a poetical envolee by Italian Enrico Pagani”. Thus Michael Korber cannot cease to inspire, to transport,to propulse, to dynamise any viewer, into his uniquely Pyrotechnic iconographism.
